The assignment for this project was to create a "body extension" which is a piece that in some way attaches to the body, either by modifying the functions of the body or altering body regimes. 

This piece is a long cardboard box, painted inside and out with opaque black paint, then inserted into a stretchy black fabric tube. The object is made to be worn over the head with the box in front of the face. The black is such a stark colour that I think is necessary when contextualized with meaning. As a useful object the box is a sensory deprivation piece when on, lending to the stark opaque blackness of it. As a metaphor it can represent people who refuse to see outside of their own box (perspective).  It also reminds me of plague doctor masks in the middle ages, because of the shape and presentation- humorously relevant in 2020-2021.

While overall a simple piece, it is effective in it's purpose.
