This final painting studio project is a metaphorical self-portrait project. The assignment title is "I Am Here", and the goal is to represent the self in some way within the work but not as a traditional self-portrait. I chose to represent a person who is struggling to stay above the surface of a body of water. The title 'drowning' is both a literal description of the character in the work but also an answer to the statement 'I am Here'. During this semester I have struggled to feel "above the surface" of stress, workload, anxiety and depression. The self-portrait aspect of the work is less of a physical representation, as it is an emotional representation of the self. 

We were required to build our own stretchers and canvases for this project! I found this very fun!
